42 and Counting: Piano Craft Gallery's Annual Resident Group Show Dec 7-23, 2018
The Piano Craft Gallery invites visitors to 42 and Counting: the annual PCG Resident Group Show. The opening reception is December 7th from 6 to 10 pm. Join us!
For 42 years the Piano Craft Guild, AKA the Piano Factory, has housed artists who gather annually to display their work in the resident group show. This year, the resident group show will be held for the first time ever in December. The Piano Craft Gallery has been under newly elected leadership for the last two years and has decided to close out each year of artistic programming with a celebration of the creativity within the building. The 42nd annual resident group show will be organized by the Piano Craft Gallery board of directors, and curated by Marcie Bilodeau.
Approximately 25 artists who reside in the Piano Craft Guild will be represented (Paul Goodnight, Valerie Jayne, Milton Derr, James DeCrecentis, Erik Grau, Izzy VanHall, Thom Donovan, Arni Cheatham, Niko, Peter Lipsitt, and more).
Media will include Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Print-Making, Photography, Mixed-Media, Installation, Ceramics, Fashion, Film, and more.
The Piano Craft Gallery is an all volunteer-run non-profit community gallery space devoted to sharing artists’ work with the public. The Piano Craft Gallery advances the understanding of contemporary visual and performing arts in the community and promotes artistic purposes through exhibits, performances, lectures, meetings, and seminars in connection with matters of artistic concern.
The Pianoforte Manufactury, built by Jonas Chickering & Sons, was completed in 1853. At the time, it was the largest building in the country. For 75 years, the Chickering Piano Factory produced the finest American pianos (grands, baby grands, uprights, square pianos, and harpsichords), even rivaling the European Steinway. In 1974, the Piano Factory became one of the first factory/loft conversions, with nearly 200 residences and creative spaces, including a theater, printshop, and a large gallery at the entrance of the building. After 40 years, the Piano Craft Gallery was moved to its current location, a larger and more comfortable exhibit space.
