Iteration 1 of the Five Senses Project of the JoLiv Collaborative presents the harmonization of Vision and Music! Comprovisations are a method of harmonizing the visual and the aural where the musician and the artist work in a continuous process of drawing sound or music and then taking that drawing or painting and interpreting it back into music or sound. The resulting exhibition includes a series of drawings and paintings and sound installations that correspond with each collaborative object. The pieces are meant to stand in harmony with one another to inform the viewer to look more closely and hear more when interacting with the work.
Olivia Ann Carye Hallstein is a Cambridge-based internationally exhibited interdisciplinary artist who has practiced professionally since 2010 at age 19. She began her career in the artist collectives and state-theaters in Berlin, Germany. She has exhibited at Maxim-Gorki Theater, Deutsches Theater, LA54, Uferhallen, RAW Temple, Der Kanal, BAT theater, TIK Theater, and the MFA Boston. In Berlin, she studied at Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weissensee in set and costume design and founded a community-oriented arts organization called …impy… in Neukoelln. As part of …impy… she developed workshops in textile design, puppet making and cuisine and continued her artistic practice with 200 original designed garments, several painted series, a performance practice and was active as a local activist against exploitative gentrification. Since arriving in Boston-Cambridge, she attended and graduated from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University. Since graduating, she is the co-founder and director of Fine Arts and Management at the JoLiv collaborative with Jonas Kublickas. Other work includes: the Five Senses Project, workshop development, critical written work, costumes for an orchestra and studying natural dyes and pigments.
Guitarist and lutenist Jonas Kublickas is a native of Vilnius, Lithuania. Jonas began his music studies on classical guitar at the age of 11 and after winning several competitions in Europe, graduated from Salzburg Mozarteum with his Bachelor’s of Music at age 20. Since his arrival in Boston, Massachusetts, he has graduated with his Master’s of Music from New England Conservatory. Performances include recitals of solo and chamber music repertoire at the New England Conservatory of Music, Handel & Haydn Society, the Boston University, Celebrity Series, Gwangju World Universiade closing ceremony in South Korea, Isabella Stewart Gardner museum and Seoul National University. He is the co-founder and director of Music at the JoLiv Collaborative with Olivia Ann Carye Hallstein.
The Piano Craft Gallery advances the understanding of contemporary visual and performing arts in the community and promotes artistic purposes through exhibits, performances, lectures, meetings, and seminars in connection with matters of artistic concern. The Piano Craft Gallery is an all volunteer-run non-profit community gallery space devoted to sharing artists’ work with the public.
